Study of Semiconductor Microring Lasers for use in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Telecommunication Networks

In this thesis, the optical characteristics of all-active microring resonators as lasers are studied. The structure of a semiconductor microring laser coupled to a bus waveguide is investigated. The scope of the study is to examine the microring’s laser operation and also emphasize the influence of the key design parameters on single mode and/or unidirectional operation, both being of major con...

Design of OWns: Optical Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Network Simulator

Optical Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) technology is a very promising candidate to harness the enormous bandwidth offered by the optical fiber. WDM networks are being actively considered for deployment in future Wide Area Network (WAN) environments such as the Next Generation Internet, in order to satisfy the high bandwidth and low latency demands. A proper performance evaluation of the ...

Static Analysis of Wavelength Tuning in Two Section Index Coupled Dfb Lasers Using the Transfer Matrix Method

The wavelength tuning is an important issue for distributed feedback (DFB) lasers designs and applications. In this paper we have presented an algorithm to analyze the wavelength tuning characteristics of twosection index-coupled (TS-IC) DFB lasers in above threshold regime, by the means of the transfer matrix method (TMM), and the carrier rate equation. The versatility of the theoretical model...

Monolithic Integration of WDM Light Source for Silicon Photonics by Cascade of Al2O3: Er3+ DFB Lasers

We demonstrate a monolithic integration of WDM light source for silicon photonics by cascade of Al2O3: Er3+ DFB lasers. Simultaneous operation of four channels is achieved with dl/dT = 15.3±0.1 pm/oC temperature dependent wavelength shift. OCIS codes: (130.0130) Integratsed optics; (130.3120) Integrated optics devices; (140.3460) Lasers.
